Kansas Visitors find a captivating tapestry of nature - buffalo grazing, grazing the bobcat, rocky canyons, not to mention many open meadows, sunflowers, gold, and sand dunes. In the southwest corner of Kansas, near Elkhart, Cimarron National Grasslands protects an area of over 100,000 acres surrounding the Cimarron River and parts coverage of the Santa Fe National Historic Trail. Cimarron rolling grasslands also contain a panoramic, self-guided tour car that passes by a town of prairie dogs faith. Once the range of fighter and Comanche Kiowa Indians, Cimarron today is still inhabited by animals like elk, beavers, sheep and antelope and porcupines. Just half a -mile east to a stand of poplars is Little Basin, a small training pool which is the site of a curious seemingly endless source of fresh water called Jacob's well. In the hills of the Smoky plains of North Central High near Phillipsburg, Kirwin National Wildlife Refuge was Kansas' first such federal sanctuary. For RV travelers who want to stretch their legs, there is a footpath interpretation of short Kirwin Crappie Point.

Sand Hills State Park is a unique attraction in south-central north of Hutchinson, Kansas. With a series of dunes forty dating from the end of the ice age, the prairie sand was formed when winds deposited sand from the Arkansas River. The sand hills were then anchored by the roots of native prairie grasses, appear more typical East Coast American territory average. Amazingly life, vegetation inland dune area is decorated with grasses, sedges, shrubs and wildflowers loans colors of lavender, gold, green and purple to the landscape.
