Why am I losing power on my 99 Tiffin Allegro RV. It has a Chevy engine 454.? driving the RV to the interstate a few hours no problem. after entering Redlights and stop signs would not be more than 1000 rpm rev or pull the RV at all, especially on a hill or slope, but he did not kill the engine. if I let it sit for a few minutes, it would be a good start, and act as if nothing had happened. we repeated this process a lot on this trip.
The first thought that comes to mind is a fuel filter plugged or clogged converter catalylic. If your service engine light is on this subject should be scanned because there are several electronic sensor that could be the cause of your problem.
It sounds like a typical problem of the fuel pump. There is no way of knowing when they will go, but when they do, you will lose power, especially if you're accelerating hard, or climbing. Often, you stop the engine and pump to give a little time to "rest", it starts OK. But when these problems start to occur, it is more likely time to change the pump.
It is also possible that this could just be a clogged filter, and you might start there. But if the problem persists, the need to pump more likely to be modified.
