Towing Guide

Towing GuideKnow Before You Tow: Free Towing Guide

Thinking of taking the open road with a motorhome, trailer or other equipment attached to the back of your car or truck? First make sure you know what you can tow. Use this guide to learn about towing the different teams available to protect your vehicle and your safety.

Rule # 1 Towing Guide: Using the appropriate vehicle for tow.

Know the towing capacity of your vehicle and make sure it is sufficient to allow coupling safely. Check the weight of the trailer in tow, then add the weight of the items you are towing. To be on the safe side, add an extra 10-15%. The total number of your gross trailer weight (GTW). Make sure your vehicle can handle the GTW.

Learn the lingo of the hitch.

Other than VTM, there are several other words to know for tow safely:

aec the gross vehicle weight (GVW) is the combined weight of the vehicle including passengers and cargo. aec Gross combined weight rating (GCWR) is the maximum permissible total weight of the trailer and its contents, plus the towing vehicle and its contents. This issue is key, too much weight is to risk an accident or damage to your vehicle. aec Language weight (TW) is the amount of weight your trailer presses down on the hitch. Consult your owner's manual and expert RK Chevrolet.

The cars tend to have opinions that tow trucks, light trucks and heavy low-end models. Vehicle manufacturers provide a towing capacity of their owners manuals, if you are unsure of your vehicle towing or towing rating laws of the State of your choice on the hitch that fits your GTW.

The three most common types of hitches:

aec A weight-carrying hitch - used for a maximum of £ 3,500 GTW and 300 pounds of weight of the language. aec Weight-distributing hitches - used for loads over 5000 pounds GTW. aec The fifth wheel - similar to those used by 18-wheelers (but much smaller). Used for towing RVs or large horse trailers. How to mount the hitch.

Fasteners differ in how they mount. A type of hitch is invisible, while others mounted in the bed of a pickup truck or flatbed. RK Chevrolet or your dealer can advise you on the types of fasteners and fixings available. Please check the laws of your state towing.

Experts RK Chevrolet want you to be strong, then feel free to contact us for more information about the coupling. Towing laws vary from state to state, contact your department of motor vehicles state information on laws concerning the towing of recreational towing over the towing guide.
